Amanda Kennedy, vice-president for the local utility, stated in a press release that while Oakville Hydro has more than 60,000 Sensus meters in its distribution area none are the Sensus Generation 3.3 meters blamed for more than 10 unexplained fires. In a press release issued earlier this month, Sensus said their smart meter investigation pointed to the fires being the result of contributing external factors such as water intrusion due to holes in the meter boxes, hot socket conditions in the meter box and over voltage in the distribution system. They said these incidents underscore the critical importance of careful meter installation procedures.
