Multiple complaints received by Town continued from p.1 Allen said Hamilton has had plenty of time to work out some kind of solution, stating the conflict dates back to June when the Town received complaints not only about Hamilton's basketball net, but another nearby resident who had a basketball net and a hockey net on the boulevard. "The Town distributed letters to these residences explaining that under the Municipal Right of Way Bylaw no equipment can be placed on the roadway, and requested the items be removed," said Allen in an email. "After receiving the letter, one resident called the Town indicating they would remove the equipment (a basketball net stand and a hockey net). There was no response from the second resident." Allen said the complaints about the equipment in front of both properties continued, which resulted in the Town sending a second letter to both homeowners on July 24. This time, neither resident contacted the Town. On Aug. 19, Town staff drove by the two residences and removed a hockey net that was still on the boulevard of Hamilton's neighbour. Allen said Hamilton's basketball net was left in place because of its weight, which will require a Town truck equipped with a lift to remove it. If and when sporting equipment or anything else is removed from a boulevard, Allen said, residents can call within 30 days to retrieve their items. The property owners are charged the removal cost of $50 to get the equipment back. inside today's Editorial We are a married family with four children so life is very expensive for us. "They're going to take away this physical activity from my family and my kids because someone is in an uproar that this is infringing on a crazy, stupid bylaw?" Allen said the Town works with residents to resolve any issues and find solutions before taking action and will try to contact Hamilton again to resolve this issue. He noted the Town receives about 100 calls a year from residents reporting objects being improperly placed on boulevards. The situation is normally resolved with little issue, Allen said. free admission to the home show ~ all 3 days! Save money on kitchens, bathrooms, roofing, windows and doors, furnaces and more!
