Candidates for Halton Region chair, mayor, Town council and Regional council were all on hand as hundreds packed the Black Box Theatre at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre for a lively all-candidates meeting. Bronte Village Residents Association (BVRA) along with the Association of Oakville Harbours' Stakeholders, and the Bronte Harbour Yacht Club hosted the event. People had the opportunity to submit questions to candidates ahead of the event, or pose them during a Q-and-A portion of the two-hour debate. One issue that bolstered the divide among mayoral contenders was a question about who should bear the cost of Oakville's harbour operations. Mayoral candidate Gord Brennan said incumbent Rob Burton had taken money out of the harbours "and it needs to be increased." For the month of October, the town is selling swim/skate passes for the reduced price of $5 for 10 tickets (50 cents per swim or skate) to encourage Oakville's little ghosts and goblins to have fun while exercising. `Get Active' Halloween passes are available for purchase at town pools, community centres or Town Hall and are redeemable from November 1 to December 31, 2014 for children/youth aged two to 14 years.
