Fourth annual Scotiabank Skates event will benefit new Oakville hospital The Oakville Hospital Foundation recently announced its fourth annual Scotiabank Skates event will benefit the new Oakville hospital. For the past three years, the popular, "old-timers" hockey tournament and family skate event has benefitted Trillium Health Partners. Held from Friday, Jan. 16-Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at Mississauga's Hershey Centre, the event will see teams choosing to play for Team Oakville or Team Trillium. Proceeds from the friendly fundraising competition will be shared between the two hospitals in Oakville and Mississauga. To kick off the registration for the event, a launch was held last month in Mississauga where representatives from the Oakville Hospital and Trillium Partners Health foundations played a short game of road hockey. The Hershey Centre is located at 5500 Rose Cherry Place, in Mississauga. "Getting the influenza vaccine every year is the most important way to protect against the flu," stated a press release. "It also helps to prevent the spread of the virus to those who are vulnerable to complications of the flu. Influenza immunization is recommended for all those six months of age and older." The vaccine is available at clinics, doctors' offices, walkin clinics and many pharmacies throughout Halton. Take precautions to catching and spreading the flu by: washing hands frequently; using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer; avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth; staying at home if sick; seeing a doctor if illness worsens or does not improve after a few days.
