TVCogeco debuts Warrior's Legacy With Remembrance Day approaching, a TVCogeco documentary will explore the role native Canadians played in the Second World War. Warrior's Legacy: Ontario's First Nations in the Second World War tells the story of how native communities responded to and coped with the war. The one-hour documentary, narrated by Drew Hayden Taylor of the Curve Lake First Nation, shows the experience of natives in the war, how they were rescued from discrimination at home, and how it created a new set of problems. The documentary tells the story of Ontario native families from Curve Lake, Alderville and Tyendinaga First Nations. "So many people from these communities answered the call, sometimes a third of the population," said producer Matt Murphy. "We spoke to a number of veteran elders and their stories are riveting. They fought a war none of us know about. It was their own war, and they have problems talking about it, even now." Among the stories explored are the four McLeod brothers from Cape Croker First Nation who fought shoulder-to-shoulder on D-Day , and Spitfire pilot Jack Beaver of Alderville who broke the barriers that didn't allow natives to join the Air Force.
