Held at Oakville's Pic-A-Deli Restaurant Saturday, the trivia night, which included door prizes and pub food, raised funds through a 50/50 draw, silent auction and online donations at www.phacanada.ca. The evening was meant to create more awareness towards Pulmonary Hypertension (PH), a rare, life-threatening lung disease that causes the arteries of the lungs to become narrowed and scarred, which could result in the complete closing of the arteries. PH can lead to heart failure Those affected by the disease suffer from continuous high-blood pressure in the lungs, which results in an enlargement of the heart, and can lead to heart failure and, in some cases, death. Burlington resident Barbara Heal, who was diagnosed with PH 10 years ago, has made it her mission to spread awareness of the disease in an effort to secure more research in finding its cure. Heal says many PH patients are misdiagnosed with asthma and end up waiting up to two years for a correct diagnosis, or even longer in some cases, and not receiving treatment that can slow the progress of the disease.
