The Oakville Beaver, Friday March 12, 2004 - 21 Eco Festival at Glen Abbey Rec Centre April 3 The Halton Eco Festival is returning for its fourth year at the Glen Abbey Recreation Centre on April 3. The annual one-day environmental fair is from 10-6 p.m. Throughout the day, people can learn about various environmental topics while sampling the vegetarian and organic fare of the Eco-Cafe, all located in the gym of the recreation centre. Presentations include tips on how to "green your car," compost with worms, or "clean for health." Most presentations are kid-friendly and some are aimed directly at children. At 2 p.m., eco-troubadour Chris McKhool will give a one-hour musical Earth, Seas & Air performance for chil dren - parents are welcome. Hour-long workshops will again be a significant part of the Halton Eco Festival. All workshops are led by expert speakers and allow for in-depth discus sion of environmental issues. Among the 10 workshops are: land stewardship, renewable energy, and green roofs and raingardens. Workshops and stage pre sentations are free with admission to the festival, and no pre-registration is required. The arena of the Glen Abbey Rec Centre will be filled with environmental booths of all types. The municipalities of Oakville, Burlington and Milton are sponsors this year. Non-profit organizations will repre sent a large portion of the exhibitors, helping you find out more about the var ious environmental problems facing us and what you can do to help. Environmentally-friendly businesses, anchored by sponsors Oakville Honda and Home Depot, will display products and services that can make your life more green. An added attraction this year is a silent auction of eco-friendly items. Cost for the day is $5 for adults, $3 for students, and free for children aged 12 and under.
