- Description
- A newspaper ad for an auction on Thursday, September 11, 1856 to sell 150 village lots in Troubridge. The location of this area called Troubridge is "immediately adjoining the Bronte Stations of the Hamilton & Toronto Railroad...along the Plank Road from Bronte to Milton, the County Town of Halton." It is "distant from Bronte 1 1/4 miles; from Palermo, 3 miles; from Milton, 13 miles".
The ad gives a wonderful insight into the area, especially the rail service and the business amenities of the area. - Notes
- "Troubridge" is in keeping with the area celebration of the victories of Lord Nelson. Briefly, Captain Thomas Troubridge commanded the Culloden under Nelson, Edward Troubridge served on Nelson's flagship, the Victory, in 1803.
