Bekker, a 24-year-old midfielder, became the then-highest Canadian player ever selected in the Major League Soccer Draft when Toronto picked him third overall in 2013. Bekker played in 29 games during two seasons for Toronto FC, and is still seeking his first MLS goal. Four members of the 2013 OHL Cup champion Oakville minor midget AAA Rangers are listed among the top 125 North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting's midterm rankings that were released Tuesday. Defenceman Matt Spencer of the Peterborough Petes is ranked 51st, followed by blueliner Kyle Capobianco of the Sudbury Wolves (67th), forward Matt Luff of the Belleville Bulls (95th) and forward Brett McKenzie of the North Bay Battalion (124th). Spencer and Luff are both Oakville natives, while Capobianco is from Mississauga and McKenzie is from Vars, Ont. (near Ottawa). The 2012-13 minor midget AAA Rangers set a Minor Oaks Hockey Association record when 12 of their players were drafted in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection. Spencer (third overall), Capobianco (seventh) and McKenzie (10th) were first-round picks, while Luff went in the seventh round. Callum Fryer of Oakville was ranked 210th and was the only Ontario Junior Hockey League player to make the list (story, page 47).
