Performed by the jazz duo of Diana Braithwaite, left, and Chris Whiteley, right, the 50-minute lively, interactive performance includes songs, slides, and storytelling to tell the history of the underground railroad and the story of the first black settlers in Canada. The elementary school takes its name from former Oakville resident, Captain Robert Wilson, a Great Lakes ship captain who operated out of Oakville Harbour and who helped black slaves escape to freedom in Oakville, which was part of the Underground Railroad. African Americans in the Oakville area later celebrated Emancipation Day at George's Square and visited Wilson at his home.
