- Description
- Omagh, Halton County lies about 5 miles south of Milton town centre, just west of Fourth Line along Britannia Road. When Trafalgar Township existed, it had a population of about 100 people at its height.
The tree was in the middle of Britannia Road. This photograph was taken sometime prior to 1953. We know the church seen on the left side of the photograph was torn down in 1952.
From 1873 this church, Christ Church, shared a rector with St. Luke's Anglican in Palermo. Joined in 1919 by St. John's Anglican in Nelson. For many years, the only service at the church was one celebrating harvest time. A link to the church records held by McMaster University library is underneath the photograph in this record for your further information.
To the east, or far right side of the photograph, can dimly be seen the store which stood on the same side of the road as the church and little white bungalow, closer to 4th Line.
Milton Historical Society has also posted a good exterior photograph of the church, linked here. They have also posted some interior photographs in "Milton Images", one of which, from the 1920s, is linked here. - Notes
- The larger photograph of the church from the collection of Milton Historical Society has "English" church handwritten on it. This is a reference to the church being Anglican in denomination.
(The Anglican church in this photograph is not to be confused with the Omagh Church of Christ across the road which began in 1851 and still operates today.) - Subject(s)
