A 2 - The Oakville Beaver, W ednesday S ep tem be r 4, 2002 Peace vigil set for Sept 11 Last year's terrorist attack in the United States will be remembered in Oakville with a Peace Vigil For A Peaceful Planet on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The vigil will be held in memory of Sept. 11 2001, and will run from 8-9:15 p.m. at George's Square Park which is located downtown Oakville. The park is at Trafalgar Road and Sumner Avenue (just north of Lakeshore Road). Organized by the Oakville Community Centre For Peace, Ecology and Human Rights (OCCPEHR), the vigil will give local people the opportunity to voice their concerns, beliefs, visions, fears and hopes for the world. "The attacks on the U.S. last Sept. 11 left the world in shock and horror," said OCCPEHR head Stephen Dankowich of the need for local people to express their feelings about the chain of events that rocked the world after terrorists flew jet airliners into New York's World Trade Center's twin towers, crashed another into the Pentagon in Washington and crashed yet another plane in Pennsylvania. The evening will commence with a minute of silence in which to remember the victims of 9/11, as well as all victims of war and terrorism. Local artists will then lead in singing of Blowin'In The Wind and We Shall Overcome among other songs that will allow those attending to reflect on the causes of the terror ism. Speakers will share their concerns and then there will be a symbolic tying together of "ribbons for peace" by those attending, said Dankowich.
