- Born in 1823 in Glasgow, Scotland. Minister of the united congregations of Knox Presbyterian Church, Oakville and Sixteen Mile Creek, 1850-1862. In 1866, he led a party of pioneers that included his wife Mary (MacBeth) Nisbet, to the Prince Albert, Saskatchewan area to found a mission to bring Christianity to the prairie Indian nations. It was he who named the community after Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, in honour of the deceased 1861 husband of Queen Victoria.
