Oakville author Fay Copland recently released her second book: Skint Knees Re ections on a Scottish Childhood. "The place you know rst is surely the place you remember best," said Copland. That place, for the local resident, is the small town of Renfrew, Scotland, located on the south bank of the River Clyde, west of Glasgow and North of Paisley. It was there Copland spent her "carefree childhood" in spite of the fact the Second World War was making life dif cult for the adults in her life. Copland was inspired to commit her childhood memories to paper after taking creative writing class at McMaster University. The local author has been a resident of Oakville for 50 years. Her rst book, Hidden Treasures A Story of Church Bells, was published last year. It is a children's non- ction story describing, in words and coloured illustrations, the workings of Metropolitan United Church's carillon in downtown Toronto.
