At approximately 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, police spotted a vehicle driving without a muffler in the area of Third Line and Merchant's Gate. As officers tried to approach, police reported the vehicle went through a stop sign and headed southbound on Heritage Way, where it allegedly accelerated to a speed of 95 km/h in a 40-km/h school zone. The vehicle was travelling through a residential area that's home to two elementary schools -- on a school day -- and was observed swerving on the road and "squealing" its tires, according to police. Officers stopped the vehicle a short time later and made an arrest. A 16-year-old male driver, who was a new or G2 Class licensed driver, was released on a Provincial Offences Summons. The youth faces charges including having no muffler, careless driving, stunt driving (speeding by 50 km/h more than the speed limit), and speeding. Pursuant to provincial stunt-driving legislation, the youth had his licence suspended for seven days and the vehicle he was driving was towed and impounded for seven days.
