CWF donates $40K to SAVIS Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Services (SAVIS) of Halton was recently the recipient of a $40,000 grant from the Canadian Women's Foundation (CWF). The grant, part of multi-year funding from the CWF , will go towards extending SAVIS of Halton's Be the Change project with the Halton District School Board to Grades 11 and 12 students. "We are so pleased to build upon the success of the Grade 9 curriculum," said Kathryn BakerReed, SAVIS of Halton executive director. The curriculum centres on teaching the students about health relationships, gender, consent and the media's representation of relationships in an effort to promote positive community change through education and end violence against women, according to SAVIS. SAVIS of Halton is a non-profit agency that provides support to all survivors of violence, such as one-on-one counselling services for women, men, and members of the trans community (aged 14 and older) who are survivors of abuse, including childhood sexual abuse. The agency also offers counselling and resources for family members, friends and support people.
