Chou worked way through consolation draw to bronze-medal game, then upset top seed continued from p.38 Horseshoe championships, finishing second to Corpus Christi's Kelly Carter each time. At OFSAA, Chou won her first two matches and took the opening game of her quarter-final 21-8, over Richmond Hill's Shirley Yang. Yang, who went on to take the silver medal, battled back to take two close games 21-18, 21-18. "I felt like I could have won, but I don't mind," Chou said. "That's one of my favourite things about Sommer," said OT coach Stephanie Adams. "She's an amazing winner but she can also gracefully take a loss." It was something Chou wouldn't need to do again at OFSAA. Working her way through the consolation draw, she won three straight matches. She beat Toronto's Lisa Li 21-13, 21-8 to set up a potential rematch with Carter in the consolation semis, but advanced automatically when Carter had to withdraw with an injury. Still, Chou's route to an OFSAA medal was not an easy one. She met the tournament's No. 1 seed and last year's OFSAA silver medallist, Port Credit's Caitlin Sherry, in the bronze-medal match. Chou won the opener 21-13 and then claimed the bronze with a 21-18 victory. "It's pretty exciting," she said. "I hadn't even thought about trying to win a medal." "I think I was more optimistic," Adams said. "Halfway through the second day, I thought, `She's got this.' She's able to focus on the challenge rather than the final outcome. She's an incredible talent." In mixed doubles play, White Oaks' Jasmine Yu and Justin Park won their opening match but were eliminated in the second round by the eventual bronze medallists. In boys' singles play, Holy Trinity's Kevin Yap and Iroquois Ridge Patrick Wang each lost their first-round matches. -- A longer version of this story can be read online at bit.ly/1HdPwC4 39 | Thursday, May 14, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Soccer Player Development socceR pRoGRaMs that Develop plaYeRs InnovatIve technIques to Develop InDIvIDual skIll Game Based LearninG Brain Based LearninG Oakville Summer Registration Now Open! 905-467-2775 pRoGRaM DIRectoR: DIno lopez powered by www.apexfootylab.com Simon Whit eld - four-time Olympic triathlete, Olympic gold and silver medallist and Pan Am mG Games ames bro b nze meda allis ist t.
