O N T H E R I G H T T R A C K Longhorns competitive in season-opening loss Despite two touchdown passes from David Ferkul to Archelaus Jack, the Oakville Longhorns dropped their Northern Football Conference season opener Saturday in Cambridge, 22-18 to the host Tri-City Outlaws. Jack's three-yard TD reception pulled the Longhorns to within four points with 5:50 to play, but Oakville was unable to score the go-ahead major and obtain its first victory in more than two years. Jack also hauled in a five-yard scoring pass from Ferkul in the first quarter, tying the score 6-6. The Outlaws scored two touchdowns and a field goal in the second quarter, more than offsetting a two-yard touchdown run by Oakville's Kasean Davis Reynolds to carry a 22-12 lead into halftime. Ferkul completed 12 of 21 passes with the two majors and one interception. Jack caught seven passes for 86 yards, but Oakville's running game managed just 18 yards on 16 carries.
