The annual event is run by the libraries of Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills and local schools compete at either the junior level (Grades 3-5) or the senior level (Grades 6-8). Each community holds its own competition and sends the winning team to compete at the regional event. Students are quizzed about books and authors from an approved list that includes Canadian and award-winning literature. The students prepare by reading and studying the authors and books ahead of the competition. This year, both the junior and senior teams from St. Mary qualified for the finals following the round-robin competition. At the finals, it was the junior team that would emerge victorious in its division over St. Vincent Catholic Elementary School, while the senior team suffered a loss to E.J. James. At the regional competition, St. Mary's junior team won its semi-final and final games against Burlington's Central Public School and Halton Hills' Park Public School, respectively.
