Billie passed away at the Oakville Hospital surrounded by the love of her family. Billie often stated that she felt that she had lived in the most exciting time in history. She shared much of that time with her husband of almost 50 years, J.W. "Bill" Carroll. Bill and Billie were a true partnership in every sense of the word. They started Oakville Custom Pools on Speers Road in 1957 and through that business met some of Oakville's most colourful characters. Billie trained as a nurse at St. Joseph's in Toronto and after leaving nursing to raise her family she did a great deal of volunteer work to give back to the town she loved. She was an active member of Central Baptist Church and appreciated her loyal friends there, particularly, Marianne Hallford. Billie had the soul of an adventurer and was fortunate to share that trait with her three sisters, who were her frequent travel companions. Although too many to mention, her trip highlights included South Africa, New Zealand, India, the Galapagos Islands, and her personal favourite, Tibet. Billie is predeceased by her husband, Bill, her daughter Trixie and her granddaughter Pattie. She will be sadly missed by her children Jim (Velma), Mike (Sue), Austin (Linda), Kathi and Rob (Tammy). Beloved grandmother to Bill (Diane), Gord (Laina), Cindy (Tim), Wendy (Airton), Stacey (Andrew), Brian (Paige), Patrick (Tamara), Marisa (Jason), Kelly and Jessica. Loving great-grandmother to Ben, Nick, Kayley, Jessica, Josie, Jacob, Austin, Alex and Connor. Loving sister to Beatrice Wilson. A private family celebration of life will take place at a later date. HERBERT, Neil Alan Passed away suddenly on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at the age of 48. Survived by cherished sons Kyle and Elliott and their mother Claire Bingham. Loving partner of Debbie Williston. Survived by mother Davina (nee Gower) and predeceased by father Alan. Dear brother to Angie (Chris) Battochio and their children Peter, Robert, and Daniela. Loving grandson to Margaret Herbert and predeceased by grandparents Arthur Herbert, Arthur and Gertrude Gower. Neil will be sadly missed by uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Friday, July 3, 2015 from 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 4 at 1 p.m. Private cremation to follow. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian Mental Health Association would be greatly appreciated. www.smithsfh.com The Oakville Beaver would like to express sincere and heart-felt condolences to those who have lost their loved ones.
