Residents disappointed with lab closure by Julia Le Oakville Beaver Staff 19 | Friday, September 4, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com A blood collection lab has closed its Bronte location, much to the disappointment of area residents and doctors. Gamma-Dynacare Medical Laboratories moved out of the Bronte Medical Group building at 78 Jones St. in early May after 25 years of service. Oakville resident Margaret Watt said the void is being felt by hundreds of seniors who live in the area. She said they now have to travel further to access the services. "I stopped driving and many of us have stopped driving, so that means a taxi fare of $13 each way," said the 81-year-old. Gamma-Dynacare Corporate Communications Manager Joanne Rizi recently told the Oakville Beaver the decision was part of the company's efforts to be more accessible publicly. Where as the Jones Street location was only servicing the medical group's patients, Rizi said a newer lab, which opened at 2525 Old Bronte Rd. last September, is servicing everyone within the community. "It's within 10 kilometres of the lab and a lot more of our patients and clients have access to it," said Rizi. Bronte Medical Group has been referring their patients to the Gamma-Dynacare lab on Old Bronte Rd., as well as other blood collection labs in the town that include LifeLabs, 1060 Speers Rd., and CML Healthcare, 170 Rebecca St. Bronte Medical Group office manager Jerrica Pasch said the doctors are "sad to see Gamma-Dynacare leave and for our patients to be inconvenienced." The group is looking for other blood collection lab companies to occupy the space.
