Neighbours shocked by Judith Wilson's death by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff 3 | Thursday, September 24, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Neighbours on Sheldon Avenue fondly remembered Judith Wilson Tuesday, describing a person who was always willing to give a helping hand to those who needed it. These residents were shocked to learn of the 62-year-old Wilson's death, which occurred Monday night. Her 39-year-old son, who lived in the 1343 Sheldon Ave. home with her, has been charged with second-degree murder. "I'm really sorry to hear that this happened," said Walter Crossman, who lived across the street from Wilson. "She was a real pleasant lady." Crossman said the flashing red lights from police cruisers and ambulances converged on the home Monday at around 8:30 p.m. Police said they received a call from the son stating a woman was dead in the house. Officers found Wilson with no vital signs and attempts to revive her with CPR were futile. The woman was declared dead at the scene. An elderly neighbour, who didn't want to give her name, said Wilson was a wonderful person who would come over to shovel her driveway and sidewalk when it snowed. "I can't say enough good things about her," she said. The neighbour said she recalled that one day when she was carrying a heavy bag of mulch, both Wilson and her son came to help her. Crossman said he would occasionally use his snowblower to clear Wilson's driveway and remembers her being particularly proud of the many solar panels she had on the roof of her home. "She would come over sometimes and show me the cheques (she got from the power company)," he said. Crossman said Wilson had served as a bylaw officer with the Town of Oakville, which the Town confirmed in a statement issued Tuesday, which read, "To honour the passing of Judy Wilson, chair of the Property Standards Committee and a former bylaw enforcement employee, flags at all town facilities will be lowered to half-mast until after the day of the funeral or memorial service." On Sheldon Avenue, some residents who worked during the night and were only getting home Tuesday morning, were greeted by the heavy police presence on the usually quiet street. Others had seen the police commotion during the night, but didn't know what to make of it. "That's awful," said Dorothy Macey. "I saw the flashing lights all over the place and lots of people running around, but I thought it was a party." Ryan Porte, 39, of Oakville is charged with second-degree murder.
