Wednesday, June 6, 2001 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER B3 Eco Festival promotes green lifestyle `Get Green' at Oakville's first annual Eco Festival on the this when people will be encouraged to be green achievers. In Glen Abbey Arena on Third Line and Upper Middle Road there will be a diverse and bustling Green Marketplace with 60-plus exhibitors promoting "green lifestyle" products, ser vices, and campaigns. Natural health care alternatives will be on display. Gardeners will come for native plant species on Saturday morning. There will be arts, crafts and hundreds of books available about the environment. Under one roof and for just one week end, people can meet activists representing more than 20 envi ronmental campaigns. This information fest also will inform people on issues, events, and activities in support of the environment. On Saturday there will be eight Educational Workshops on the subjects of Native Plantscaping, Carolinian Canada, Globalization, Organic Gardening, Earth Education with The Bronte Creek Project, Real Food For A Change, and Utilities Deregulation and what it means for consumers. Sunday features six work shops on the topics of Women's Health and Breast Cancer, Water Quality, Transportation, Organic Food, Your Ecological Footprint, and Environmentally Healthy Homes. People can enjoy vegetarian and vegan food at the Eco Fest Kitchen & BBQ and take some home from the organic farmers market adjacent to the kitchen. Children will enjoy the Kids Eco Area staffed by alumni and students with The Bronte Creek Project. They will experience earth education activities, take a nature walk, make a hemp and bead necklace, paint a gigantic environmental mural, run like a river, and go fly a kite. Cyclists can enjoy bike trails right on location. Local artists will perform a Concert For The Earth on Saturday at the Eco Festival from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Eco Festival will operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 9 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 10. General Admission is $2 for individuals and $5 for families. Each educa tional workshop will cost $5 to attend - $2 for students. "We are hopeful that this envi ronmental event will inspire local people to be green achievers," said Maria Schneider, a volunteer with The Oakville Community Centre For Peace, Ecology And Human Rights a grassroots, notfor-profit social movement orga nization located at 148 Kerr Street just south of Rebecca.
