The High Park batter hit a long fly ball to left field, and as coach Dave Downer has constantly reiterated ... Scott DeGroot got to first on an eiror, and A.J. Obrodovich's sin gle moved two more runs across the plate for a 3-3 tie in the top of the fifth. It stayed that way until the tenth, with a tie-breaking ruling in effect, placing an Oakville runner on second base (last out in previous inning. Matt Downer). A passed ball moved him to third, and Mitch Peragine's fielder's choice scored him for what proved to be the winning run. Jurgaitis pitched a strong seven innings (Ilk's), Alden Black, getting his game in order, worked the eighth, and DeGroot after an over the shoulder catch at shortstop, finished up for the win (2k's). In earlier action, the Majors decisioned an Orangeville team 12-3. on doubles by DeGroot and Jurgaitis, sin gles by Obrodovich (2), Jurgaitis, Ryan Mallough, Peragine, Lujan and Adam Davidson; runs by DeGroot (3), Lujan (2), Patch Channing, Davidson and Mallough. After their first game against High Park, the Majors knew they would be in tough if they met them in the final, as they had to come from behind to win 3-2, despite some good hitting by Lambert (triple), Obrodovich and DeGroot (doubles), along with singles by DeGroot, Obrodovich, Keresteci and Peragine; RBI's by Lambert (2) and Black. The Majors, after four tournaments are 17 wins, one loss. Their next challenge, and a really big challenge, are the district playdowns at High Park (July 14-20) against Stoney Creek, Dundas, Ancaster, Brant-Wentworth, Erindale, Orangeville, and the Park. The winner moves on to the Provincials in Ancaster (July 24-Aug. 1). The Canadian Little League cham pionships are in Vancouver (Aug. 411), with the winner going on to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Penn., the latter part of August. Defence is solid in 2-1 win over Burlington at Shell Park The Oakville Phantoms under-10 girls soccer team won their second game in as many outings, edging Burlington 2-1 in a hard-fought contest at Shell Park. Karly Dagys opened the scoring for the Phantoms in the first half with her second league marker o f the year, taking a pass from m idfielder Angelika Uremovich and driving it past the Burlington keeper. Ali Palmer make it 2-0 before the first half was over, knocking home a rebound creat ed by a hard shot from m idfielder Kelsey Young. W hile the first h alf belonged to Oakville, the second half was a different story. The Burlington squad cut the lead to 2-1 half way through the second frame and it was only through some tremendous goaltending by Taryn M cKenna that Oakville was allowed to escape with the win. The Oakville defence was solid with strong play from Erin Tilley, Jacyln A lderdice, K rista M ichie and N icola Ram sden. Em ily M aganja, with her strongest game o f the year, led the midfield that also consisted o f Logan BishopCurrey, Sarah Wojcik, and Jenna Haydar. Danielle Jordan.
