Organized by volunteers devoted to their faith, the annual morning gathering brings like-minded people together to pray for the needs of their community. The 32nd Oakville Prayer Breakfast is Wednesday, Dec. 2 at the Oakville Conference Centre, 2515 Wyecroft Rd. "Most people are curious about what life is about and they may not identify with one particular religion or one particular Christian denomination. They have a sense there is more to life than just what they're doing... there is some overarching purpose," said Ann Mulvale, former Oakville mayor and event co-founder and organizing committee member. The breakfast will feature opening and closing prayers, a musical performance, Scripture readings and guest speaker Mike Reinders, president of Maple Reinders Group -- a familyand employee-owned ! W NE ns o i t op u n me e r o wm o N Mike Reinders construction company focused on buildings and environmental facilities. "We stimulate people's interest in the faith. We have people of many faiths who attend and people who are seeking a faith or have left an organized religion and are interested in hearing a good speaker," said Mulvale. Reinders will share his experiences in attempting to live out his faith in his activities, while balancing commitments to family, church, work and leisure. "He's got quite the reputation. If you drive around, you will see signs about his buildings. He's very well thought of. He's going to be sharing his journey as a successful businessman," said Mulvale. She noted the Oakville Prayer Breakfast typically draws 500-700 people each year and showcases a speaker. The event was established more than 30 years ago. Mulvale attributes the longevity of the event to its volunteers, who actively get the word out to the community through posters, its website and social media. She said the Oakville Salvation Army will be at the breakfast to collect donations for its yearly Christmas Kettle campaign. The breakfast event is an invitation to celebrate the community, faith, draw inspiration from others and to think about benefitting others as the holiday season arrives.
