The Blades, 21-10-3, lead the OJHL's South Division by six points over North York. The Blades have two weeks off before resuming play in Buffalo Wednesday, Dec. 30. The OHGHA is currently in its 20th season after breaking away from the Minor Oaks Hockey Association on May 28, 1996. Tim MacKay, MOHA girls' hockey president at the time, announced that girls' hockey would become an independent association. The Hornets' 20th anniversary celebration day starts at 8 a.m. at Sixteen Mile Creek Sports Complex. Events throughout the day include house league games, an alumni pick-up game, a public skate and a Hornets Junior vs. Junior Alumni game. On display will be Hornets jerseys from past years and old photos of Hornet alumni. There will be specials at Puckz and 20th anniversary apparel available to purchase. The league that started in 1996 include 193 girls between the ages of 5-17, playing in one of six divisions. Today, the Hornets boast one of the largest women's associations in Canada. Headquartered at Joshua Creek Arena, the OHGHA remains a volunteer organization with 1,250 girls and women stocking 73 teams from tyke to women's leagues at the house league, DS and rep levels. "The growth success of the Hornets association, over the years, has been through the tireless passion and commitment of the parents and volunteers that support women's hockey" said Hornets president Bob Pujo.
