Daniela Paniccia made 24 saves as the Hornets recorded their second straight shutout and ran their shutout streak to 126 minutes. Jaime Bourbonnais had the only goal of the opening period and Jessica Smith made it 2-0 in the second. Facchinato put the game away with goals 3:19 apart midway through the third. With three goals and three assists in the series, Facchinato is second in playoff scoring behind Stoney Creek's Kristin O'Neill, who had four goals and four assists in the Sabres' sweep of Cambridge. The day before, Hornets' Nikki Triathlete Kyle Jones records top 10 finish in Abu Dhabi Kyle Jones turned in the secondbest World Triathlon Series finish of his career, placing ninth in Saturday's race in Abu Dhabi. The Oakville native finished in one hour, 47 minutes and 44 seconds, narrowly missing a top-eight finish that would have guaranteed him a spot at the Olympics in Rio. Jones finished just two seconds behind Australian Ryan Bailie for the coveted spot. "I had a great few months of winter training to prepare for the 2016 season so I am very happy to start it off with a top-10 result," said Jones, whose best finish is sixth at the 2012 World Championships. "Coming into the race, I was focused on a topeight (Olympic qualifier) result. I came just short of that, but it shows the form is good, and I'm excited for what lies ahead this year." Jones was plagued by injury and misfortune in 2015. He broke a bone in his back after going over the handlebars of his bike when the rider in front of him went down. He returned in time to race at last summer's Pan Am Games in Toronto, only to get a flat tire when another rider knocked a cone into his wheel. He finished the season strong, though, earning a pair of medals in the final two World Cup races. Jones carried that over into the Abu Dhabi race with a strong finish on the bike and the run. The 31-year-old was 58th coming out of the water after completing the 1.5-kilometre swim in 18:22. He made up ground on the 40-km bike course, finishing in 56:26. That was the 10th best time and just seven seconds off the best time. Jones was even better during the 10-km run, finishing in 31:46, the seventh best time. He started the run five seconds behind Bailie but ran out of time to reel in the Australian. "The weather conditions today were very similar to what we can expect in Rio so to perform well in the heat is a good sign," added Jones. The next World Triathlon Series race is April 9 in Australia. Canada will nominate its athletes for the Olympic triathlon following the May 15 Yokohama race.
