Local man facing weapons charges after pellet gun seen tucked in pants A 19-year old local man is facing numerous charges in connection with a gun incident Tuesday at a north Oakville convenience store. According to Halton Regional Police, officers were summoned around 12:15 p.m. to the Sixth Line store near White Oaks Secondary School, after receiving a report of a man with a gun tucked in the waistband of his pants. An investigation and a search of the area followed and soon officers locat ed two men involved in the incident. Further information obtained by police resulted in the discovery of a pel let gun at a nearby home. Wayne Whitlock, 19, of Sixth Line has been charged with two counts of uttering threats, carrying a concealed weapon, weapons dangerous, careless storage of a firearm and five counts of breach of probation. primthree: Your im@ge is our business Valuable bronze statue still missing from Ukrainian camp on Dundas Street Halton Regional Police are investigating the theft of a large and very valuable bronze statue from the Ukrainian Camp on Dundas Street West. The Taras Shevchenko Memorial Foundation reported the theft of a bronze statue of Taras Shevchenko 1814 - 1861, from the Ukrainian Camp on Dundas St., Oakville. While the statue has a monetary value of $30,000-$40,000, the impact of the statue's theft on the Ukrainian community cannot be measured in dollars. The statue's subject, Shevchenko, was a cul tural leader, and is widely revered as the Ukraine's greatest son. The statue was crafted by Ukrainian artist Ivan Homchar, in the 1950s.
