Thousands of New Year's Eve revelers filled down town Oakville for an evening of entertainment culminat ing with five minutes of fire works in the night sky above the big clock. A single giant firecracker lit from the clock started the light show. Lakeshore Road between Thomas and Dunn streets was closed for the event, as revelers, some wearing party hats and `2000' glasses, arrived with bubbly and glasses towards the end of the evening. "It went very well," said Oakville 2000 Committee member Jack Burkholder. "It was `small town appropriate.' We didn't intend it to be a big extravaganza. The whole idea was for people to remember where they were at the start of the new Millennium. Most folks came away with a good feeling, for sure."
