The final season tally stands at 24 wins, 3 losses and a tie. Playoff action will begin shortly. In recent action on December 5 the Novice A Rangers edged hosts Erin Red Devils 2-1. Darren Quan Scored first for Oakville in the first period before Erin tied it early in the second. Defenceman Michael Salvatore scored the clincher on a long shot. On December 6 the Rangers were at home and defeated Elora 10 to 1. After Darren Quan's goal in the first period things went down hill fast for Elora. Michael Baird led the way with a hat trick, scoring three times in a single peri od. Also scoring in the second were Patrick Irish, Taylor Ziesmann, Gabriel D'Rollo and Matthew Lynett. Lynett opened the third with another long strike from his blue line post. Darren Quan who scored first, also scored last. On the Dec. 12 the Rangers traveled to Acton and won another close one, 4-3. Oakville's goals were scored by Hollis Milroy (2), Gabriel D'Rollo, and Patrick Irish. On Dec. 13, Oakville shut out visiting Erin 2-0 with goals scored by Patrick Irish and defenceman Michael Salvatore. On Dec. 15, the Rangers won 8-2 in Elora. Michael Baird opened things up 55 seconds into the game. Linemate, Jeff Patterson, up from house league, was next to score. Other goals were scored by Taylor Ziesmann (2), Jonathan Brand, Gabriel D'Rollo, and Darren Quan. On Dec 17th, Oakville won 4-0 in Arthur. Excellent goaltending was provided by Grayson Douglas and Matthew Fyfe. This netminding tandem that has routinely shut down opponents all season did so again. Oakville's markers were recorded by Darren Quan, Brian Coules, who played a tremendous game, and Jonathan Brand who scored twice. The Bell ExpressVu Rangers finished their regular season at home with two losses, one against Acton and then another against Guelph. Oakville routinely defeat ed these teams all season but seem ingly began the Christmas Holidays two days early. All play ers look forward to meeting these teams in the playoffs. While the record 24-3-1 seems to suggest an easy season, many of the teams' caliber of play has risen significantly of late. Closer game scores indicate this as well. One thing is clear, no opponent has had any trouble getting up for a game against these Novice A Rangers. All opponents know exactly what they face when they meet Oakville. These boys have learned to win by playing an overpowering brand of hockey that has been con sistently backed up with great goaltending. This combination will need to continue in order to keep these Bell ExpressVu Novice A Rangers rolling along in the play offs! A clim b in the standings would be a trem endous achievem ent for the Blades, and would better their chances at m oving on in the playoffs. N EW M A RK ET SHOW CASE The Blades had a good tournam ent at the Newmarket Show case over the Christm as Break, however, an unde feated prelim inary round record was not enough to advance them to the sem ifinals. The Blades defeated Thornhill 6-3 and tied Buffalo 22 and Sault Ste. M arie 4-4. The Sault advanced from the division, however, as they won their other two games, 42 over Buffalo and 5-4 over Thornhill. Peewee A's won their regular season league championship with a 23-4-1 record. The Rangers wrapped up their regular season with an 8-2 win over Dundas in a home game at Oakville Arena two days before Christmas. Patrick Farrer led the charge with a hat-trick, while team captain Craig Shimoda added a pair of goals. Brock Kiely and Paul O'Mahoney also had goals. Assists went to Mark Irish (3), Shimoda (2), Daniel Rodrigues (2), Tyler Wood, Kiely, Farrer, Matt Whittington and O'Mahoney. Goaltending was shared by Mike Mierzwa and Reuben Boissiere. Between them, they faced 15 shots. Oakville tallied 30 shots. Earlier in the week, Oakville recorded two wins over Simcoe. On Dec. 22, the Rangers beat Simcoe, 3-1, in a home game. Farrer netted 2 goals and an assist in the victory. Other assists were added by Rodrigues (2), Kiely, Mark Dvemechuk and Wood. Mierzwa faced 18 shots. On Dec. 19, Oakville beat Simcoe, 4-0, in an away game. Boissiere recorded the shutout between the pipes while goals were put in by Kyle MacDonald, Shimoda and Dvemechuk. Kaitlyn Wheeler notched the winner early in the third period after deking the Bison goalie on a breakaway. Erin Mitzel and Melissa Snedden picked up assists. The final round-robin game was against the same Vaughan Flames the Hornets defeated in the championship final. In knowing that they had already advanced to the final, as the result of their unblemished record, the Hornets fell 4-3 to the Flames, setting up the rematch for the tournament championship. Scoring for Oakville in their last round-robin game were Stephanie Secord, Roxanne Sports Board Tickets for Paul McCartney's return to the Cavern were pretty hot but that's noth ing compared to the line-ups that used to form to register for the Oakville Soccer Club (OSC) which is the biggest club in North America with membership typically reaching beyond 8,000 members. But that should all be, thankfully, in the past now, as the club has moved to a mailin registration for all returning players. The OSC mailed out its forms the week of Dec. 13-17 and it's the responsi bility of returning players to verify the information and return it by the deadline of Friday, January 21. Registration forms post marked later than January 21 will not be accepted. Returning players who have moved are asked to contact the office immediate ly at 849-4436. Open registration for all new players and returning players who did not meet the mail-in deadline will be held over two Saturdays in February (Feb. 5/12), 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Town of Oakville Office on Trafalgar Road.
