Wednesdsay January 12, 2000 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER A3 Trio charged following series of area robberies Three men have been arrested by Toronto Police in connection with a GTA-wide armed robbery spree that included a pair of Oakville holdups over the weekend. The local incidents occurred only hours apart and involved gas stations on Bronte Road and Sherwood Heights Drive. A ccording to the Peel Regional Police Central Robbery Bureau, the trio was arrested in Etobicoke around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday. Money, cigarettes, a stolen vehicle and a shotgun were all recovered. According to Halton Regional Police, a man entered the Sunoco station on Bronte Road south o f the QEW around 11:30 p.m. Saturday. He produced a shotgun and demanded cash and cig arettes. The clerk complied and he fled on foot. At 2 a.m. Sunday, two males approached the Sunoco station on Sherwood Heights Drive. One held the door open and the second entered the kiosk. He produced a shotgun and demanded money and cigarettes. After the clerk complied, the pair fled on foot. Investigators determined that similar rob beries occurred in M ississauga earlier that day, one at a 2-4-1 Pizza on Leanne Boulevard and the Daisy Mart on Alexandra Avenue. Leonard Colosino, 40, o f G ardner Ave., M ississauga, Kenneth Marche, 19, of Albright Ave., Toronto, and a 17-year old young offend er from Milton are facing a host o f charges ranging from robbery to possession of burglary tools. The young offender was also charged in connection with a robbery in Brampton on Jan. 3rd. The police investigation continues into rob beries in Kitchener and Guelph and further charges are pending. Driver critically injured in mishap Two Oakville men were seriously injured Sunday morning in the wake of a head-on colli sion on Ford Drive. According to Halton Regional Police, the accident occurred around 8:15 a.m. when a vehicle travelling south on Ford Drive near the lights at Sheridan Gardens Drive veered across several lanes of traffic and struck a northbound car. Both drivers were trapped inside their vehi cles and had to be extricated by the Oakville Fire Department. The driver o f the southbound vehicle Matthew Wren, 24, of Donlea Crescent - was airlifted to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto with life-threatening injuries. At press time Wren was listed in critical condition. The northbound driver - Bruce Williams, 50, o f Beechfield Road - was transported to Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Man charged in car thefts A M ississauga man is facing charges after a pair o f alert police officers recovered two stolen cars Saturday night. Halton Regional Police C onstables Robert Leggatte and Rafal Skw arka w ere on routine patrol in O akville when they checked a luxury vehicle parked at a W yecroft Road body shop. They discovered it had been reported stolen to Toronto Police on Dec. 16, 1999. A check of another vehicle on the property revealed that it, too, w as reported stolen to Peel Regional Police on M arch 21, 1999. The officers seized the two vehicles and arrested a pair o f m ale em ployees o f the busi ness. A fter further investigation, one o f the men was released and will not face charges. M oham ed W azir Azeez, 36, o f Forestw ood D rive, M ississauga was charged with posses sion o f stolen property over $5,000 and will appear in O akville C ourt on Feb. 29th.
