About two dozen Halton District School Board teachers are showcasing their artwork at the annual Front of the Class art exhibit. It is a five-week exhibit at Oakville Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Rd., running until Friday, May 27. "In our artwork, as well as the classroom, we seek to make connections to who we are as individuals, what we create, and how so much of what we go through reflects the universality of human experience," said Ken Gordon, former art teacher at Burlington's Lester B. Pearson High School and one of the artists in the show. "Sharing our own art sets a good example to our students and our community. It demonstrates that, we too, are continuing to explore our own personal humanity through our art." More than 50 art pieces will be in the show, displaying a variety of mediums, subject matter and styles. The exhibit is free for visitors to attend during Town Hall's open hours. A private opening reception was hosted by ArtWorks Oakville on May 5 where those who attended could meet with the teacher artists. Some of the works were available for purchase. ArtWorks is an incorporated, non-profit volunteer organization promoting and showcasing visual artists at several public spaces in Oakville.
