www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, May 12, 2016 | 46 Oakville native Sarah Burton performing with band at Moonshine Café Oakville native Sarah Burton is bringing her full band to the Moonshine Café tomorrow (Friday, May 13) for a reunion show. The Sarah Burton Band will be dropping by after Burton's six-month solo North American tour for her latest album Make Your Own Bed. The album, which came out in March 2015 in Canada and in December 2015 in the U.S. and worldwide, is an alt-contemporary comingof-age story, and a tribute to her first mentor, her childhood piano teacher, the late Ivona Kvas, according to a media release. "Kvas, an Oakville musician, inspired Sarah to use the tools of classical music to create her own songs," stated the release. Burton's album has been called "an absolutely perfect mixture of pop, rock and folk" by Canadianbeats.ca. The Sarah Burton Band is performing at Oakville's Moonshine Café tomorrow (Friday, May 13). Band members include, from left, Scott Nickol (drummer); Sarah Burton (lead singer/guitar/piano); Alfred Chow (lead guitar); and Victoria Beard (bass). | submitted photo Her recent tour included shows in Los Angeles, Austin, Texas, New York City, and St. John's, N.L., with stops in between. Burton first played at the Moonshine Café in 2007, but this will be her first time she plays with her new band at the local spot. She formed the band in May of 2014 after meeting guitarist Alfred Chow and Scott Nickol, who plays drums, when they were students in her class at Seneca College, where she teaches in the Independent Music Production program. Long-time friend and Australian ex-pat Vic- toria Beard rounds out the foursome on bass. Friday's show will also be a joint belatedbirthday party celebration for Burton and her father -- Mayor Rob Burton -- whose birthdays are two days apart in April. Burton was on tour then. Tickets cost $10 at the door and the event starts at 8:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.sarahburton. ca or follow Burton on Twitter (@saraheburton), Instagram (@burtonius), or Facebook at www. facebook.com/sarahburtonmusic.
