I N T E R N A T I O N A L More than 200 elementary students, from Grades 6-8, recently converged on Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre for the 11th annual International Dance Day. The event featured workshops in the morning, with groups of students presenting their creative pieces in the afternoon. Pictured, Alyson Loney, 14, of Burlington's C.H. Late last month, the OAC released a community questionnaire to the public to understand the artistic and cultural needs of Oakville residents and artists in 2016. The survey coincides with the council beginning the process of developing a new strategic direction and is looking for the community to provide input on services, programming, fee structures, opportunities and barriers to participate in the arts, and general feedback about the arts and culture sector in Oakville. "For the last 38 years, we have been a leader in the arts community here in Oakville. We have developed many unique programs for the sector, some of which have grown to become their own separate organization, such as ArtWorks Oakville," Bernadette Ward, OAC executive director, said in a media release. "While there have been many developments in the arts community over the last four decades, with greater financial support from municipal and provincial governments being a great achievement, our important work remains at the grassroots level, providing leadership, support and resources to local emerging and professional creatives. "The arts and culture sector looks a lot different than it did in 1978, and we want to ensure we continue to be an effective leader, providing excellent programming, service and resources as we have always done," she continued. The questionnaire, which is open to all residents, not just artists, is available on the OAC's website at www.oakvillearts.com or directly at www.surveymonkey.com/r/ oacartsurvey. There will be two other opportunities to provide input in person at open houses on Thursday, May 19 at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre, 2302 Bridge Rd., from 1-3 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., in Multipurpose Room 1. Registration for the round table events, is not mandatory, but appreciated, according to the OAC and can be done online at www. oakvillearts.com/events. The OAC has been a community-based charitable non-profit since 1978 and serves a membership of artists, arts organizations, and the general public, as an arts information service in Oakville. 47 | Thursday, May 12, 2016 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com In the Arts...
