On Tuesday (May 10), Holy Trinity held its first-ever Career Exploration Panel discussion with six graduates who talked about their experiences after high school and the careers they've chosen. The goal of the event is to give current students a chance to hear potential opportunities for future careers and/or post-secondary schools. The discussion was followed by a reception and Q-and-A with the alumni -- Chris Corbeil, Kathleen Newman-Bremang, Nick Coffin, Chris Iannuzzi, Natalie Oreskovich and Lindsay Ward -- who answered pre-selected questions during the one-hour panel session. Iannuzzi graduated from HT in 2011 and Oakville's Sheridan College two years later. After finishing his studies at Sheridan, he received additional schooling at other institutions before becoming an entrepreneur. He opened a café and gelato shop on Lakeshore Road West in 2014. "I kind of jumped into it. I wasn't really the type to wait around. I wanted to start my life off. I wish to retire early and enjoy my life," said Iannuzzi. I'm happy I did it." Coffin, a freelance filmmaker who graduated from HT in 2013, recently completed his studies in a three-year media arts program at Sheridan's Trafalgar Campus. It's been a "pretty cool journey," Coffin said, as Holy Trinity prepared him for the line of work he chose. "I kind of always knew that I wanted to do filmmaking, but I didn't know there was a school for that or you could go for that. When I found out Sheridan had a program, I was like, `Wow, that's crazy awesome,'" said Coffin. "I really went for it to make sure Sheridan was a No. 1 priority to go to. I was dead-set on trying to get directly into a filmmaking course that lets you be hands-on." After graduating from Holy Trinity in 2008, Ward went to Brock University for the concurrent education program, majoring in English with a minor in History. She returned to the Oakville Catholic school in January as a Grade 9 and 11 English teacher. Ward attributes the "mechanics of English and social aspects" at Holy Trinity for preparing her for university and her current teaching role.
