The Halton resident and educator was at Bronte Creek Provincial Park in the off-leash dog trails with her dog, a 15-month-old rescue, believed to be a Catahoula mix or coon hound mix. McMurchy got her dog Copper through Our AngelsDog Rescue, which rescued her from a high-kill animal shelter in Kentucky. Meanwhile, at Bronte Creek Provincial Park this week, a fawn was also in the off-leash area near the creek. "My dog spotted it while we were on the trails. The fawn was calling for its mother. I tried to grab my dog once I saw the fawn, but my dog, Copper, ew by me. I was sure the result would be bad news for the fawn, but I was wrong. Copper was very gentle and the fawn kept moving along the trail right up to me. It stopped and pushed its nose into my leg. Because of the location, I gently moved it to behind a large log and made some calls while it nuzzled my dog. Oakville and Milton Humane Society (OMHS) staff and the park wardens worked together to relocate the deer to safety for the day and returned it at dusk. Thankfully, mom and baby were reunited.
