17 | Friday, June 17, 2016 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com By Katelyn Dingman After living in the Mediterranean for three years, long-time Oakville Montfort restaurant owner Rebecca Shoufany recently brought the taste of home back with her. Bringing the taste of the Mediterranean to Oakville the restaurant by a close family member, Kibbeh comprises spiced beef and sautéed onions in a shell that is deep-fried and served with fresh tzatziki, hummus and a fresh salad. "The Kibbeh is to die for," Shoufany said. "I left the country (Israel) when I was eight-years old so I thought it would be really nice to go back and learn about the culture and the food," Shoufany said. Revamping the menu just in time for summer, Shoufany, who has owned the Oakville Monfort Mediterranean Cuisine location since 1992, has introduced a variety of new Mediterranean inspired dishes. Her inspired palate motivated the owner to introduce new menu items after visiting several cobblestone Mediterranean restaurants along the beach in Akko and Haifa. "Everything is fresh. They don't use any preservatives. The meats are incredible," Shoufany said. And now Montfort staff is serving delectable meats in what has been coined the Deluxe Mixed Grill. Shoufany noted that the dish features a variety of different meats, including lamb, chicken, pork and kafta, marinated to perfection and accompanied by baba ganosh and hummus, a fresh salad and choice of home fries, French fries or rice. Shoufany also recently introduced Kibbeh, a traditional Palestinian dish that is typically served raw or fried. Provided to Oakville Montfort has a variety of Mediterranean inspired dishes. She noted that the restaurant's chef has been creating amazing food there for 10 years along with the prep cook who has been at Oakville Montort for 15 years. Shoufany's daughter Dalal has also adopted her mother's passion for Mediterranean food, graduating from George Brown College Chef School recently and coming to work with her mother at Montfort. In addition to a revamped Mediterranean menu, the Oakville Montfort's décor is Mediterranean inspired, with what Shoufany describes as beautiful, vibrant, happy colours with fresh flowers on display throughout. "We also have a beautiful patio," she said, noting that she recently added two televisions to the interior so that customers can watch sports while they eat.
