- Minnie Campbell, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Buck was well known in her own right. She was very interested in the British Empire and her family history and at first, hoped to become a doctor. She attended the Wesleyan Female College in Hamilton as a young woman, and with her "Mistress of English Literature" degree, taught at a young ladies college in Ottawa where she met her future husband, a young lawyer born in Oakville, Colin Campbell. Colin felt there were great opportunities in Manitoba for political and government work so they moved to Winnipeg.
Minnie was an activist with the IODE, the Women's Foreign Missionary Society, the United Empire Club and was used to organizing, travelling and speaking about her interests.
One of the events she organized to commemorate her parents and their work in the Trafalgar Township area, was this 500 strong gathering of former patients with the children of the couple, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Dr. Buck's birth. The TTHS print archives have two Oakville Star newspaper articles (the publisher's complimentary copies) which were published as part of this event, one on August 25 and the other on September 1, 1933 - "Review of Life of Dr. Anson Buck" and "Commemoration of Century of Dr. Anson and Mrs. Buck at Palermo, Ont." respectively. Neither is available via the internet.
The Buck house was sold in 1924 by Minnie but this Commemoration was held on the front lawn of the large family home.
Comparing her 1935 photograph on the University of Manitoba website, I suggest she is the woman sitting with her body facing right while she looks directly at the camera in the 2nd row, centre of the landscape Commemoration photograph. She has a dark hat with 2 white strips on it, fair hair, and is wearing a dark jacket over a light-coloured blouse. The man sitting on the sidewalk in front of her has a white shirt, narrow dark tie and is looking slightly to the left.
The women to Minnie's right have similar facial features and either the 2nd woman over with the white blouse or her neighbour with the white streak on her hat could be her sister, Mrs. McPhee. Unfortunately, we have no further identification of people at this time.
