Oakville Ballet dancers shape up for premier performances at Centre for Performing Arts More than 40 young dancers have begun rehearsals for the Oakville Ballet's premier performances in September. The dancers, aged 12-17, are under the guidance of Amanda Paterson, artistic director and ballet master, and Ciprian Campianu. "(They) have combined two of the most iconic classical ballets to thrill the audience and introduce a new generation to classical ballet," according to the Oakville Ballet. In addition to dancers from Oakville Ballet, taking the stage will be students from the Oakville School of Classical Ballet and two guest artists, Markham-born Jessica Burrows and Swedish-born Lucas Jerkander, both currently part of the Hong Kong Ballet. Marius Petipa choreographed La Bayadère, Kingdom of the Shades (1877) -- the ballet is famous for the entrance of the `Shades', where the corps de ballet perform a series of arabesques while descending a ramp. "Adding to the celebration of talent, technical ability, and joyous determination of the young dancers will be the colourful rhythmical scores of Ludwig Minkus led by Oakville Ballet orchestra's Judith Yan," stated a media release. The two evening performances will be held the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, 130 Navy St.. Tickets will be available in August. Julieta Tabares of Zumba Canada recently organized a four-hour marathon of dance, exercise and energy to help orphaned children in Tanzania through the Global Friends "Dress for Success" program. More than 60 participants raised funds to provide 50 young girls living in extreme poverty with clothing and another 50 teenage girls with special packs filled with school supplies, hygiene products and books.
