Description
The original watercolour sketch of the Jacob Book house and inn at Palermo is by great-granddaughter, Hallie Vansickle. The second image in this record shows the descriptive note on the back of the watercolour which was written by Hallie, about the house and hotel. The third image is copied from a book and shows the interior floor plan sketch also prepared by Hallie.

The book referred to was privately published by Herbert V. Book in 1963. It is simply titled "Family Records compiled by Herbert V. Book". The Library of Congress Number is 63-15463, author in the LC citation is Herbert V. Book, place of publication is possibly Detroit. 360 p. ill. CS71 B7247 1963.

FAMILY HISTORY: Vol. 3, Annals of the Forty: Jacob served in the 4th Lincoln Regiment during the War of 1812. They bought a farm near Palermo, Trafalgar Twp., Halton Co., Ontario and Jacob owned and operated an Inn there for a number of years. After Mary's death, Jacob married Mrs. Mead, widow.

Inscriptions
This 1 1/2 storey wood frame house stood near the road, just west of the present lane into John Irvine's lane way and in this house Jacob Book kept hotel and catered to the stage coach travellers going along Dundas St. from Toronto to London. A large driving shed to the rear was left open and a coach and team could easily enter. By Hallie VanSickle.
