In June, Regional Council approved an investment of over $2 million in the Basement Flooding Mitigation Program, with the expanded services launching this fall. Halton Region is committed to ensuring that its infrastructure and services are resilient and that the risks associated with severe weather events are mitigated where possible. Downspouts and weeping tile directly connected to the sewer system can cause basement flooding, as extra water can enter the system and overwhelm it during severe weather events. The program encourages homeowners to disconnect their downspouts and weeping tiles through increased subsidy limits and a new subsidy for residential sewer lateral lining and repairs. With this investment, Halton will continue to help homeowners across the region to reduce the risk of flooding in their homes and communities. Visit halton.ca/basementflooding for more information.
