Description
This was the farmhouse at 1499 Dundas Street East or Lot 6 Concession 1 NDS in the area of Ninth Line and Dundas. Unfortunately, it is demolished but we have a number of photographs of the farmhouse taken in different years - the latest being these taken in 1991, a previous series taken in 1977 and some with members of the Conover family who owned the property in the late 1800s into the 1900s.

In the family photographs of the Conovers, taken around 1915, you will immediately notice the front of the house in older days had a full veranda across it. In these 1991 and in the older 1977 photographs, there is only a small front step roof to shelter people from the weather while knocking at the door. But the outline of the full veranda is still on the house bricks. You will also notice that the former verandah on the west side of the back wing has been replaced by a weather-proof sunroom that would be a lovely shelter in cooler weather.

Other owners/residents connected with this Lot were Ezekiel Post who drew this lot in 1816 and built a tavern on it. He also sold 1/2 acre to the public school trustees for S.S. #4, Snider's School, Trafalgar Township in 1873. Ezekiel's house still stands on Ninth Line (in June 2017). Arthur Conover who came from Ireland and settled part of the Lot in 1841 farming and raising stock, and John McLean in 1856.
