Gone to Rest

Mrs. R.S. Appelbe

One of our older residents, Mrs. R. S. Appelbe, passed away on Saturday last at her residence on Navy street, aged eighty-five years. Her health, always good, had become poorly only a few weeks ago.

The funeral was on Monday afternoon when service was held in St. Jude's church, a number of old friends gathering to pay their last respects. Canon Smith and Rev. G. H. P. Grout conducted an impressive service. Several former choir members were present to assist in the rendering of two favorite hymns "Abide With Me" and "Peace, perfect peace." Interment was in St. Jude's cemetery. The pallbearers were W. Alec Chisholm, W. S. Davis, R. E. Young of Oakville; Mr. Baxter, of Georgetown; Mr. Lewis, of Toronto; and Mr. Robertson, of St. Catharines.

Mrs. Appelbe's maiden name was Clementina Frances Robertson and she was born in Dublin, Ireland. Her father, T. Jaffray Robertson, was principal of Toronto normal school. When quite young she came with her parents to Toronto.

Over sixty-five years ago she married Robt. S. Appelbe, barrister, and since then has resided continuously in Oakville. She was always an active and earnest member of St. Jude's church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Herbert Twigg, of Enderby, B. C., and Miss Kathleen Appelbe, at home, and one son Cecil Appelbe of Shanty Bay, and one sister Mrs. A. R. Lewis, of Toronto.
