10 - The Oakville Beaver, W ednesday January 18, 2006 The Trafalgar-Chartwell Residents' Association (TCRA) will hold its annual general meeting on Thursday, Jan. 19. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the South Atrium of Town Hall at 1225 Trafalgar Rd. TCRA represents residents in the area bounded by the QEW on the north, 16-Mile Creek on the west, Lakeshore Road on the south and Chartwell Road on the east. Area councillors for Ward 3, Keith Bird and Chris Stoate are the invited speakers for the event and will dis cuss an issue of importance to each of them. The meeting is an opportunity for the residents of the area to meet the TCRA's board of directors, ask questions or make comments on the neighbourhood. There will also be an opportunity to volunteer as a member of the board. Sim ply H alton T C R Ag en eral m eetin gT h u rsd ay TVCogeco's discusses regional budget Halton Region's 2006 Budget will be the topic on Simply Halton , hosted by Regional Chair Joyce Savoline and broadcast tonight on TVCogeco at 7 p.m. in Burlington and Oakville (channel 23). Halton Region's Director of Financial Planning and Budgets, Mark Scinocca will join Savoline to discuss the 2006 Regional Budget. Central to the discussion will be Halton's strategy to meet the needs of the community in a responsible and trans parent manner, while balancing the impact on taxpayers. Each 30-minute segment of Simply Halton provides viewers with a snapshot of one of the Region's services, programs or issues and examines the role Halton Region plays within the community. WOSS hosts information meeting on International Baccalaureate program White Oaks Secondary School (WOSS) is holding an information meeting Jan. 24 for its recently approved by the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. Interested parents and students are invited to attend an information meeting at 7 p.m. at WOSS, 1330 Montclair Dr.^ The IB Program is the world's fastgrowing pre-university education pro gram. The program curriculum offers high academic standards in first and second languages, mathematics, humanities and sciences. In preparation for the IB Program, WOSS will offer an Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) in Grades 9 and 10 for the upcoming 2006-07 school year. Incoming students will receive an accelerated program of learning in core subject areas to prepare them for the challenges of the IB Diploma Program. "Staff at White Oaks believe our school has an obligation to meet the needs of all learners that enter," said WOSS principal John Stieva. The IB organization works with schools to develop a challenging pro gram of international education and rigorous assessment. Worldwide recognition is the reason many highly motivated students choose the IB pro gram. Many universities in Canada and the U.S. give advanced standing or course credit for IB credits.
