Mayor Ann Mulvale has, as of current press deadlines, not registered and has not declared her intentions. Mulvale's tradi tion has been to wait until clos er to election time. Burton registered his inten tion to seek the mayor's job again Tuesday. As of mid-January, veteran Ward 2 regional/local Councillor Fred Oliver regis tered his intention to seek reelection. Ward 2 local Councillor Cathy Duddeck is also seeking re-election. Hixon Street resident Alan Johnston is seeking election as region al/town councillor in Ward 1, a posi tion now held by Ward 1 Councillor Mike Lansdown and formerly held by now Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn. Ward 5 town Councillor Marc Grant will also seek re-election having gained the seat in 2003. Long--time Halton District Catholic School Board trustee Ed Viana will also seek re-election as Oakville trustee-at-large. Nominations opened in January, and will close at 5 p.m. on Sept. 29. Nominations must be certified valid by the Clerk by Oct. 2 -- the last day for a candidate to withdraw their nom ination form. After an unsuccessful run at the mayor's job in 2003, Oakville resident Rob Burton still wants the mayor's job. The 2006 municipal election isn't until November, but already the list of registered candidates for everything from the mayor's seat to those of regional and local councillors, and school board trustees is growing. Candidates interested in the jobs have been able to register with the Town Clerk since the beginning of the year. Both Ward 1 town Councillor Ralph Robinson and Ward 5 town and regional Councillor Jeff Knoll registered on Jan. 2 and Jan. 3, respectively. Rob Burton Besides the mayor's office, a regional/town and a town councillor are elected in each of Oakville's six wards. School board trustees for both Catholic and public school boards are elected, as is the Halton Regional chair's position -- being vacated this time around by veteran Joyce Savoline. On Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church (upper hall), 89 Dunn Street in downtown Oakville, the public is invited to hear Paul Benson, of EAG address "Practical Solutions For Cutting Energy Costs" and Don Eaton, director of the Elora Centre for Environmental Excellence, speak on "What Is A Good House." Also on hand will be Robin and Brent Cooper from Halton's Residential Energy Efficiency Project (REEP) who will give away a door prize of an Energuide Home Assessment worth $175.
