The Halton Suicide Prevention Coalition is hosting its annual meeting in Oakville next month to highlight the importance of having the skills to support mental wellness. On Friday, Oct. 28, mental health advocates Dr. Ian Dawe and Mark Henrick will present their perspectives on "resiliency to highlight the importance of building a skillset that helps us endure hardship, stress and unexpected challenges in life," stated a media release. The free event is open to all Halton residents, and will take place at the Oakville Conference Centre, 2515 Wyecroft Rd., from 8:30 a.m. to noon. "The Halton Suicide Prevention Coalition plays an integral role in Halton, bringing together individuals, agencies and health-care providers to address the difficult issue of suicide," said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr, in the release. Henick, a program manager for Mental Health Works at Canadian Mental Health Association Ontario, will share personal and professional experiences demonstrating resilience. His talk, titled Getting to Know Thyself, is about embracing a person's vulnerability, tuning into their psychological needs and living every day as an advocate for mental health.
