Oakville firefighters arriving on the scene reported heavy smoke and flames were visible from the side of the building where first reports indicated skids and roofing supplies were ablaze. Halton police closed the area to traffic. Officers in Oakville tweeted Speers Road was A malfunction in an electrical system was deemed the cause of a commercial fire on Speers Road Monday (Sept. 26). The blaze resulted in the temporary closure of Speers Road, between Morden Road and Fourth Line, during the evening rush hour. No one was injured. | Riziero Vertolli/Metroland closed between Fourth Line and Morden Road as a result of the commercial fire. Police had asked motorists to avoid the area and watch for updates on when the road would re-open. Shortly before 7:30 p.m., police tweeted the fire had been extinguished and fire vehicles were clearing the scene. The road was then opened in both directions. Oakville Fire Chief Brian Durdin said the business was closed when the fire started so there were no injuries. He attributed the cause of the fire to a faulty electrical system in the business' shipping and receiving office where the fire started. Firefighters succeeded in containing the blaze to that area.
