The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday A pril 5, 2006 - 25 Moodie family continues to play large role in Blades' success By Herb Garbutt OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF did it got tangled up in Daniel' s hand and that was quite evident on the tape," said Oakville coach/GM Don Edwards... Matt Beca scored twice and Marc Stuart stopped 42 of 43 shots in the Blades'win Friday. Daniel Borges, Brandon DeFazio and Brendan Taylor also tallied... Sunday, Jesse Paul and Borges notched the Oakville goals. David Scamurra made 37 saves in the loss. There are obvious reasons for the Moodie household to be twice as excited about the Oakville Blades' quest for their first Provincial Jr. A Hockey League championship. Brothers Lane and Luke Moodie are playing a big part in the playoff success of their hometown team. Lane, who inher ited the captain' s role when Oakville trad ed Paul Dawson, has contributed 13 points in 21 games. The 20-year-old has also been a tough, physical presence on the Blades' blueline. Up front, Luke Moodie returned to the lineup Friday after missing 11 games with a concussion suffered in the Blades' second-round upset of the nation' s topranked team, the Milton IceHawks. He didn't miss a beat, setting up a pair of goals in a 5-1 win over Stouffville that gave the Blades a 3-1 series lead. Although Stouffville came back to win 52 Sunday, the Blades went into last night' s (Tuesday' s) game at Dominion TWin Rinks looking to punch their ticket to the league final against the defending champion St. Michael' s Buzzers. The feet that Oakville is his home only fuels Luke's desire to help the Blades suc ceed. "I go to school here and everyone reads about the team and knows I'm on the team," said the 17-year-old winger, who entered last night's action with eight points in 10 playoff games. T rh just lucky to have the chance to contribute and I'm proud to be playing for the Blades." The Moodie family connection to the Blades does not end with the brothers. Their father, Ken Moodie, coached the team from 1984 to 1990 and again from 1993 to 1995. If Oakville was not victorious last night, the Blades and Spirit will meet tonight (Wednesday) in Stouffville for Game 7. "They're trying to get under our skin and (Sunday) we let them do it," Luke said. `We have to stay out of the box. That' s how we beat Milton. If we give up that many power plays (Stouffville) is going to score two or three goals." Stouffville scored three times with the man advantage in the first two peri ods Sunday. NOTES: The Blades got some good news prior to Sunday' s game. Daniel Calitri had his suspension overturned after Oakville appealed. Calitri was hand ed a four-game suspension for intent to injure when officials ruled he hit Stouffville' s Mark Sullivan with his hel met during a fight late in Game 3. However, Oakville produced a videotape that showed otherwise. `The Stouffville player took (Calitri' s) helmet off and as he Individuals and team entries welcome Men's 18+ or Old-Timers 30+ Divisions 905-580-1174 www.playersballhockey.com Oakville or Milton Divisions , OPEN HOUSE & SALE Friday, April 7 Saturday, April-8 Sunday, April 9 10am -9pm 10am -5pm 12p m -4p m BURLINGTON NOSC are a sanctioned member Club of the Peel Halton Soccer Association (PHSi and the Ontario Soccer Association (OSA) CENTRE ^ A R T ^ i Event takes place at the Burlington Art Centre 1333 Lakeshore Road Free Admission and Parking Presented by ARTS BURLINGTON © C a n a d a life 4 0 * Discovery Ford The Oakville Beaver HOUSE LEAGUE REGISTRATION NOW AVAILABLE FOR GIRLS & BOYS www.northoakvillesc.com 2006 OUTDOOR __ : READY, SET, TWIN RINKS \ / ONLINE REGISTRATION AVAILABLE OR REGISTER AT THE OFFICE For further inform ation on a ii our programs contact: Presents info@northoakvillesc.com or call 905 827 3300 Interested in being a Volunteer??
