Shell Park is located at 3307 Lakeshore Rd. W. and is on the north side of Lakeshore Road, opposite the lakefront in southwest Oakville. The All-American Selections (AAS), an independent, non-pro t organization that donates and tests new garden seed varieties handed Shell Park second place in the category of display gardens attracting 10,000-100,000 visitors per year. "The Town's horticultural staff put a lot of hard work and creativity into designing the Shell Park garden and we're very proud and thrilled to see their efforts receive this recognition," said Chris Mark, director of the Parks and Open Space department. To re ect the competition's theme of "pollinator education," horticulture staff created a garden that attracted large numbers of birds, bees and butter ies. All participating gardens were required to incorporate AAS winners -- new varieties of owers that have proved their superior garden performance across North America. Shell Park's garden included pollinatorfriendly AAS winning plants, such as leucanthemum, heptanthemum, rudbeckia, and buddelia, and by using all recycled materials, staff were able to add an insect nesting area which became home to many different insects and a place for bee larvae to hatch.
