Sous chef Moester record-setting runner Determined to get back into shape this year, former marathon runner Jasper Moester went a step further and will get his name in the Guinness World Records book as a result. Competing in the recent Toronto Waterfront HalfMarathon, Moester donned a chef's outfit and carried a three-kilogram cast-iron skillet, prerequisites for setting a record in the "Fastest Half Marathon Dressed as a Chef" competition. He completed the 21-kilometre test in two hours, 23 minutes and 41 seconds. The time bettered the previous mark in the Guinness category by more than six minutes. "I noticed that Guinness would be present at this race so I researched the possible records available," said Moester, who is a sous chef at Maluca in downtown Oakville. "It has always been a dream of mine to set a Guinness record every since admiring (their world record book) while growing up in the Bronte/Oakville community." Moester originally was going to compete in the full marathon but a back injury during training forced him to take a two-week break and enter the half marathon instead. "The best part of the event was all of the positive cheering and engagement from the public audience as well as photo `selfies' with fellow runners," Moester said. "When we finally discovered some intensity late in the game I think you saw what we're capable of, but we had just dug ourselves too deep of a hole." Mohawk scored in the 21st, 52nd and 77th minute to build its lead. Kamila Swaby got the Double Blue on the board in the 86th minute and Kendra Cooper pulled the team within one in the 90th minute, before Mohawk added the final tally in injury time. The Sheridan men's team (4-5-2) also fell behind by three goals in its OCAA qualifier against Fanshawe and was unable to close the gap by less than two, dropping a 3-1 decision. "It's kind of been the story of our year," head coach Andrew Seuradge said. "We were a little sluggish getting out of the gates and when we put together opportunities, we just couldn't finish them. Full credit to Fanshawe, though. They really put us under pressure early and until the last 20 minutes or so we were never really able to apply the same kind of pressure to them." Fanshawe opened the scoring in the eighth minute and added another just before the half and 13 minutes after the break. Nicolas Meija put the Bruins on the board in the 66th minute, converting a penalty spot. A second yellow card for Fanshawe's Tomas Alvarez gave Sheridan a man advantage for the final 25 minutes.
